Delving into the historical background of the underlying fundamentals that first made up The Black Wall Street would invariably reveal and give great insight about the concept of our well organised and galvanised movement to rescue Africa from the shackles of economic woes. Reminiscent on past events, The Black Wall Street had its origin from a community called Tulsa which was later named Greenwood after a town in Mississippi by one of the founding Fathers, Ottawa W. Gurley in Oklahoma USA. They were formally organised in 1906 when a group of African-Americans converged together to develop Tulsa, Greenwood community in order to ensure freedom from social segregation, racial bigotry, flippant oppression, relentless barbarism, manhunt and picnic. Someone might be tempted to ask why picnic. Unknown to many, the word "picnic" was actually coined from the word "pick a nigger to lynch", which literally means pick a black guy to kill, this happened in the predominantly white-dominated southern part of America including Oklahoma coupled with the flippant incessant killings happening up North. This prompted our fore-Fathers to assemble themselves together to escape this inhuman, dehumanising and dastard wickedness towards the Black race. Starting with Gurley who was credited to own the first Black business in Greenwood in 1906. Entrepreneurs like J.B Stafford and A.J Smitherman followed suit by building a magnificent luxurious 55- room hotel and founded Tulsa Star Company, a Black newspaper respectively.

The dreams of these prominent strategists to make Tulsa, Greenwood a Self-Contained Hub and a beehive of economic activities for Black businesses owned by Blacks soon became a reality not only by choice but also by logistics. Businesses increased geometrically In what seems like a sprint to meet up the finish line before the Effluxion of time. 

Tulsa became a beacon of wealth, where there was reportedly over 300 successful businesses which includes grocery stores, restaurants, movie theatres, law offices, schools, bank, post office, libraries, nightclubs, barbershops, hotels, churches, saloon, and a fully developed transport system. In addition, while Oklahoma as a state only had 2 airports at that time, Afro-American had 6 private planes. This proves to an extent the colossal wealth these Blacks controlled and the ability to build an empire for themselves by themselves. The cohesion was not limited to the successful African- Americans alone, the less affluent ones who did menial jobs such as dishwashing, porters and domestics outside of Greenwood spent the money they earned within the district, insomuch that every dollar In Greenwood would change hands at least 20 times before leaving the community.

However, this recipe soon attracted resentment, envy, jealousy and hatred from white people, owing to the fact of the affluent lifestyle created by these brilliant and resilient people. They thought to themselves how was it possible for these people to own large homes, fine furniture and lived a prosperous life. They are slaves, they don't deserve it. Bullshit!

Ultimately, an opportunity to act viciously against these innocent Black people presented itself as a set-up, when a 17-year old, a white girl called Sarah Page who worked as an elevator operator accused Dick Rowland, an equally young 19-year-old shoe shiner of attempted sexual assault. This culminated into vicious and violent attacks against this once peaceful, bubbling, prosperous Black community, who by that time like every other state had a governor named James Brooks A. Robertson and a Mayor named T.D Evans. What readily comes to mind is that, as a sovereign state governed by laws, why was the law not allowed to take it's full course, starting from a holistic unbiased investigation into the incident.

This clearly pointed to premeditated murderous actions backed by the government of the day. 

This little resolvable fracas soon degenerated drastically into the worst racially motivated massacre, the worst in the history of America. There were also about 300 recorded events of the racial holocaust with 26 worst scenarios, which includes the bloodletting that also occurred in the East. Dubbed St Louis massacre of 1917, to mention a few. 

Consequently, on May 31 and June 1 of 1921, dubbed the Red Summer, Tulsa Greenwood, an Afro- American Beverly Hills was completely overwhelmed, it laid smouldering. There were records of aerial bombardment with Nitroglycerin bombs and dynamites in conjunction with fully armed white racist, Ku Klux Kan blood-letters. Behold, over 8000 Afro-Americans were slaughtered in Tulsa, 1500 were made homeless and over 17000 people fled by whatever means available to them in order to escape from this Holocaust. It was an orgy of horrible, horrendous sight to behold. What a barbaric, callous, inhuman, degrading, dehumanisation that was, particularly to those who survived and lived with the thought of this gruesome cruelty.

Now, fast-forward to the future, this historical event that happened about a century ago instigated a passion and a burning desire to implement this same recipe that has proven to be a success.
